The Most Beautiful Coats on Pinterest

As the colder weather of fall approaches, we like to keep an eye out for beautiful coats – coats with stylish textures, beautiful colors, and unique patterns.

At FURminator, we believe that the best, most beautiful coats aren’t in stores or on runways. Rather, they’re the coats that are already in our homes; they’re the one-of-a-kind fashions worn by our four-legged family members.

To celebrate the most fashionable members of our fur families, we created a new Pinterest board dedicated to “The Best Coats on Pinterest,” showcasing some of the most attractive coats we could find, inspired not by trendy designers but by the pets who wear them proudly. It’s a celebration of fur and of the coats belonging to all our favorite pets.

Check out a few of our favorite coat samples here, and visit our Pinterest page to see more from this series!

We love seeing all these different coats at their best: cleaned, brushed, and belonging to happy, healthy pets.

FURminator is devoted to helping pets and their coats look and feel their very best with our Pet Hair Solutions. So, if these fabulous coats inspire you to showcase your own pet’s fashionable fur, let FURminator help. With our grooming and deShedding solutions, you can keep your entire family’s coats looking great.

A Commitment to Rescue

Last year and then again this spring, we worked with a pet rescue organization in St. Louis, where FURminator was founded, to help dogs and cats find their forever homes. We’ve always loved pets of all types no matter where they come from, but in the process of working with these pets, we were deeply impressed and moved by the dedication of the generous people who care for them.

Since then, we’ve worked alongside even more shelters, and we’ve   committed, as an organization, to show our support for the work of shelters by featuring rescue pets on all of our new packaging and donating FURminator Pet Hair Solutions to those shelters.

So far, we’ve had a wonderful time working with several more rescue groups in the St. Louis area. You’ll be seeing their pets on new packaging in the coming months, but we couldn’t wait to show you their adorable faces, so here’s a sneak peek at some of the wonderful dogs and cats we’ve photographed so far:

This is Bennett, from Australian Shepherd Rescue Midwest. Bennett was a breeder dog surrendered to a local Humane Society and entrusted to ASRM for rehabilitation and placement in the perfect forever home.

Blossom is a beautiful beagle from Open Door Animal Sanctuary, a no-kill shelter dedicated to preserving the life and health of homeless cats and dogs, providing shelter, food and veterinary care while fostering their social skills and encouraging their adoption into loving homes.

Casper is a charming Brittany spaniel who was being cared for by the National Brittany Rescue & Adoption Network. Soon after we photographed Casper, he found his forever home!

Elmer is a golden/shepherd mix with Gateway Pet Guardians, and that smile melted us immediately (we weren’t the only ones, either, as he found his forever home shortly thereafter!)

This is Radcliffe, an adorable pup with 4 Paws 4 Rescue, an all-foster rescue dedicated to saving animals from high kill shelters, as strays, abandoned animals, or as owner surrenders.

We loved working with the Westie Rescue of Missouri, a volunteer organization providing westies with a warm, safe, and healthy environment where they can develop to their full potential while we search for their new forever home.

We also had the privilege of working with Tenth Life Cat Rescue, whose mission is to provide another chance at life to injured and abused stray cats, prioritizing felines with extreme medical needs or ongoing health conditions that make it difficult for typical shelters and rescues to afford their care. We loved photographing and keeping up with Bella and Claude the kitty!

One of the best parts of the photo shoots is that some of these dogs and cat brought their friends!

We can’t wait to see the shelves full of all these happy faces on our updated and new packaging, and we can’t wait to partner with more of the inspiring, dedicated men and women across the country who put their time, energy, and hearts into the wonderful work of caring for animals.

Grooming Cat Lovers Into Hairball Experts

Hairballs are a serious issue — they cause stress and discomfort for your cat, and can be a sign of potential health problems.

This Friday, April 25, is National Hairball Awareness Day. It’s a day to remember that, although they can be dangerous, hairballs are also manageable and preventable when the right steps are taken. If we make a conscious effort every day, we can ensure that hairballs are as stress-free as possible for the cats in our lives.

The purpose of Hairball Awareness Day is to raise awareness and inspire prevention. As is tradition, FURminator is partnering with cat-loving bloggers around the country to educate and remind America of the severity of hairballs.

Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Werber explains, “Hairballs are formed from fur ingested by the cat during the course of grooming, and are usually expelled through vomiting. Excessive vomiting caused by hairballs can lead to esophagitis. Hairballs that are not expelled can lead to intestinal obstruction, which could require surgery. I have performed surgeries on cats for blockage and found nothing more than a huge hairball. If undiagnosed, this condition can lead to intestinal perforation.

“One of the major elements of hairball prevention is thorough grooming, which removes excess hair and helps keep the skin and coat healthy. Nothing removes excess hair better than the FURminator,” says Dr. Werber.

As serious as cat hairballs are, we can’t help but lighten the mood while discussing how we can help our cats prevent and deal with hairballs. We are sponsoring blogger contests, encouraging readers to write the funniest, most clever or cutest captions for photos of our furry friends. The winning captions, as decided by the bloggers and FURminator representatives, receive grooming kits, complete with everything to support a cat’s healthy grooming — from FURminator best-sellers, like the deShedding tool, to new products like the Shed Control Cloths.

Our participating bloggers are collecting captions for these snapshots:

If you have a great caption for one of these photos, please head over to one of the blogs that are supporting us this Hairball Awareness Day, and submit your idea. To find a blog where you can participate in our caption contests, please visit our Facebook page.

Cats, hairballs and shedding problems are all connected — using a FURminator deShedding tool just 10 minutes twice per week gently removes 90 percent of the loose hair and undercoat without damaging or cutting the topcoat. It’s a safe, effective and non-invasive way to prevent hairballs from forming before they cause serious problems.

FURminator deShedding Tools are used and recommended by professional groomers and veterinarians so that nasty and dangerous hairballs don’t have to be a part of a cat’s lifetime routine. On Friday, April 25 — and every day — do your part to get the word out about hairball prevention for happier, healthier cats.

Dog Adoption/Rescue Posters

You may remember Abbie. Or Honey. Or Edgar. This time last year, they were looking for their forever homes, and we wanted to help. Here at FURminator, we are inspired by everyone who improves the lives of pets, and decided to do more.

We partnered with Pet Rescue Network, a fantastic organization that helps pets in St. Louis. PRN is an all-volunteer foster network that places neglected pets in loving forever homes. The pets we met at PRN had so much to offer a human family and so much personality that it was easy to create a series of adoption posters to show off each unique, loving pet!

Here are a few of the posters we designed, posters that helped with adoptions and raising awareness in St. Louis and across the US!

This year, we sat down knowing we wanted to do something again to support Pet Rescue Network’s mission to positively impact the lives of animals in need in St. Louis and surrounding rural communities. We came up with the Beautiful Rescues campaign.

Through Beautiful Rescues, FURminator is building upon our efforts last year. We updated our FURminator shampoo to showcase the dogs at PRN and spread awareness of the work that the folks at PRN do. We want to show our support for the work of shelters across the country, and their employees, foster parents, and volunteers that make them possible. What better way to do so than sharing their stories on store shelves everywhere?

In addition to showcasing PRN’s dogs and finding them forever homes, we want to help them right now, so we are donating 10 cases of shampoo to the pets at PRN. It is one small step toward helping pets looking for a home and showing gratitude to all those working to do so.

To see even more adoption posters and videos of these beautiful rescues, visit our Pinterest page.

Want to join the cause and help find forever homes for pets in need? Adopting a pet isn’t the only way! Do your part by spreading the word and sharing our posters with your friends and family. Give to the Pet Rescue Network, or volunteer at a nearby shelter. If we all do our part to help pets in need, we are much closer to improving their lives, and we allow them to change our lives, too.

Happy Pet Appreciation Week!

Hip, Hip, Hooray for National Pet Week!

In 2013, National Pet Week is celebrated May 5 – 11. Acknowledged throughout the US and other parts of the world, National Pet Week celebrates our pet pals, as well as promotes responsible pet ownership.

One important, but easily overlooked, responsibility for pet owners is pet grooming. While some pet parents schedule frequent visits to pet groomers and stylists, others may wish to simply use more convenient DIY grooming tools. This is where FURminator® comes in! With an easy 2-Step Grooming Process, FURminator offers a variety of easy-to-use grooming tools for dogs, cats and other small animals.

The 2-Step Grooming Process is a simple, cost-effective solution that includes pre- and post-bath brushing and detangle, followed by combing the pet’s coat to gently and safely smooth and extract remaining debris after brushing.

Show your appreciation for your pet. Celebrate National Pet Week with your furry friend and remember the importance of pet grooming.
