Q: Does the deShedding tool help prevent hairballs in cats?
A: The FURminator deShedding Tool was nominated by Tufts University School of Veterinarian Medicine’s newsletter as the number one product to reduce hairballs in cats. Using the FURminator deShedding Tool on a regular basis, as well as the cat shampoo or the waterless cat shampoo and conditioner will help reduce shedding, thus reducing the amount of hair your cat ingests.

Q: Are the products only for use on dogs and cats?
A: FURminator Inc. has recently introduced an equine tool with a 5 inch edge. The equine tool helps to remove the “winter coat” faster helping the horse to stay cool in the summer. Using the deShedding tool on horses can also stimulate circulation and hair growth. The tools may also be used on rabbits and ferrets.

Q: Do I ever need to sharpen or replace the deShedding edge?
A: The average consumer should not have to replace the edge for the lifetime of the pet. We always advise to keep the protective edge cover on the edge at all times when not in use. The small blue and purple cat tools do not have replaceable edges. The medium, large and equine tools do have replaceable edges.
